Your Child’s Dental Check-up Schedule

how often should my child see a dentist? Burlington

For most people, it’s best to have a dental checkup every six months. That applies to adults and children alike. In some cases, however, we want to see a patient more often, at Pediatric Dental Center.

If your child has an increased risk for dental problems, we advise you to bring them in every four months. This may be a good idea is your child is prone to cavities, for example, or is a thumbsucker, since that can affect the way teeth come in.

Many parents think that a checkup isn’t needed until their child is two years old. In fact, pediatric dentistry experts say the first checkup should be no later than the age of one, and earlier if the first tooth comes in.

By then you should already be cleaning your child’s teeth and/or gums every day. Before there are any teeth all you need to do is clean the gums with a warm, damp washcloth. That will wipe away any harmful bacteria.

Once there are teeth, it’s enough to brush them with water and an extra-soft baby toothbrush. Once there are teeth that touch each other, you should begin using a tiny dab of toothpaste. Make sure your youngster doesn’t swallow any of it!

For most kids, seeing us at Pediatric Dental Center every six months is enough. We offer pediatric dentistry and early dental care, and have offices in Burlington, Newport, and Crestview Hills KY. Call us to schedule a checkup today!
