Should I Get My Child An Electric Toothbrush?

should kids have electric toothbrushes? Burlington

Is it a battle to get your youngster to brush their teeth? At the Pediatric Dental Center, we know that in some cases an electric toothbrush can help.

If used correctly, an electric toothbrush cleans teeth as well as a manual brush. Both brushes remove food fragments. This, in turn, prevents tooth decay.

Should I get my son or daughter an electric toothbrush?

If your child is at least three years old, you may want to try an electric toothbrush. These are some of the benefits:

  • It can make brushing easier for kids
  • Your child needs to hold the brush in place, but the whirling bristles do most of the cleaning. If they can patiently and methodically cover all tooth surfaces, it will go a long way to prevent tooth decay.
  • Many electric toothbrushes designed for kids have a timer. When the child pushes the ON button, it sets a two-minute timer.

You may need to help

Allow your son or daughter to go over all of their teeth with the brush. Then step in and go over them again. This way, your child will improve on their brushing skills and develop a daily habit. Eventually, they will be able to do the job on their own.

Many children find an electric brush a lot more fun to use: “A power tool to brush teeth! Cool!”
