We want all children to have a positive dental experience – this way they will understand the importance of visiting the dentist and taking care of their teeth. Although we strive to be a preventative-based practice, we understand that there are times when extensive dental treatment may be needed. In these cases, sedation may be recommended due to the child’s dental needs, age, medical history or behavior. A major benefit to sedation is that in most cases children requiring several dental treatments can have all of their treatment completed in one visit. This relieves the possible anxiousness a child feels and creates a positive behavior pattern.
As pediatric dentists, our doctors have additional training and are licensed and qualified to treat your child with two forms of sedation. Prior to the use of any type of sedative, they will discuss with you the risks and benefits of this treatment. Please do not hesitate to ask us about the various forms of sedation and how it may apply to your situation.
If IV sedation/general anesthesia is recommended for your child’s dental treatment, it will be performed by licensed pediatric anesthesiologist Dr. Viola Devany. She will administer and monitor the sedation medication during the dental treatment. IV sedation/general anesthesia will enable your child to be asleep during the dental treatment.
